Precautions for Using Calcium Magnesium Fertilizers
Apply Early
Calcium moves slowly within plants, so early application is key. Start during soil preparation or seedling stages and continue as needed to ensure consistent calcium availability throughout the growth cycle.
Target Key Growth Stages
Apply calcium before critical growth stages, such as seedling growth, fruit enlargement, and pre-harvest periods. For fruits and vegetables, apply calcium during early leaf development, pre-flowering, post-flowering, fruit growth, and 15 days before harvest to enhance quality and shelf life.
Use Separately
Avoid mixing calcium fertilizers with other macro-nutrients (like compound fertilizers) to prevent antagonistic reactions. If mixing is necessary, keep a 7-10 day gap between applications.
Combine with Boron
Calcium and boron enhance each other's absorption, so consider using them together in foliar sprays for better results.
Moderation is Key
Overuse of calcium fertilizers can lead to fertilizer burn. The ideal method is foliar application, which ensures fast absorption and effectiveness. Typically, three applications during the growth cycle, with at least a 7-day interval between sprays, are sufficient.
Storage of Calcium Magnesium Fertilizer
● Ideal storage temperature is between 5°C and 30°C (41°F and 86°F).
● Avoid extreme temperatures, as high temperatures can degrade certain fertilizers, while freezing temperatures can cause liquid fertilizers to separate or crystallize.
● Store fertilizers in their original containers whenever possible, to easily identify the product and its contents for future use.
